IP Multicast Scalability, |Stability and Resilience Tests

PIM Sparse Mode Neighbor Scalability Test

The test compares the amount of PIM-SM neighbnors the Force10 TeraScale and the Cisco Catalyst 6500 can support.  In addition the test discovers problems with multicast traffic over aggregated links.

PIM Sparse Mode S,G Mroute Scalability Tests

These tests compare the amount of multicast routes that each switch can learn.  During the development of the test we discovered large performance differences between single switch and multi-switch configurations.  The results for both configurations are presented here.

PIM Sparse Mode RP Failover Test

The test investigates the failover times for a Randevous Point (RP) redundency between a Force10 TeraScale switch  designed network and a Cisco Catalyst based network.

IP Multicast Control – Interaction With Router Resilience Protocols Test

This test provides a side-by-side comparison of the Catalyst 6500 to the Force10 E1200/E600 displaying network resiliency for Multicast when operating with VRRP or other router resiliency protocols.

IP Multicast Control Over 802.1Q Trunks Tests

This test series exercises multicast control features such as PIM-SM and IGMP Snooping when applied to 802.1Q trunks (common in Triple Play networks). The test compares the Catalyst and TeraScale E-Series’ ability to forward traffic only to those ports that request it.
