Force10 Severe Overheating Problem in E1200

This test reveals how leaving a single line card slot open for just 10 minutes causes the entire Force10 E1200 switch to shut down. To see this issue, watch this video.

RPM Hitless Failover

This series of tests re-creates the Tolly Group’s single switch “Hitless RPM Failover Test” and confirms the failover does not cause additional packet loss.

This test also attempts to verify that this feature does not cause any packet loss in a realistic multi-switch network employing various protocols and with common switch features enabled. The test reveals major network disruption with VRRP flapping and loss of OSPF adjacencies, resulting in unicast and multicast packet loss.

SFM Hitless Failover

This series of tests re-creates the Tolly Group’s single switch SFM Failover test and compares the result to that obtained by Tolly Group.

This test also re-runs the test in a more realistic network environment, (the same as used in the RPM failover test) to reveal less satisying results.

Included in this section is a URL with a video demonstration of the switch fabric collapse.

FToS Modular Operating System Tests

Force10 claims FToS is an advanced modular operating system. These tests prove otherwise and compares FToS functionality to Cisco’s IOS With Software Modularity. It also reveals issues surrounding Force10’s claims for their 3-CPU control plane availability.
