Rating performance aspects of modern high-speed networks is a challenge for decision-makers, operators and administrators: The growing complexity of the technology makes objective and standardized benchmarking necessary.
The showcase was implemented by EANTC in collaboration with Data Systems.
Showcase Networks The showcase demonstrated the interaction between service provider infrastructures, access technologies and enterprise networks in a modern IP network design. There was a special focus on high resilience in IP networks and the integration of different services in a common backbone.
Virtual Private Networks/ Network Security New Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) solutions with MPLS provide substantial benefits to IP service providers (ISPs), compared to legacy VPN technologies. The internet has developed to such an extent in the last few years that it has become the largest platform in the world enabling information exchange and e-business. Unfortunately this has also resulted in an increasing number of criminal activities. More and more companies, even small ones, need to implement firewalls and encryption methods to enhance their network security.
Optical Networks/ (G)MPLS Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a technology to implement Virtual Private Networks, Quality / Class of Service and Traffic Engineering in IP networks. A network with real MPLS routers of different vendors, complemented by emulators, was used to demonstrated interoperability, test methodologies and the advantages and capabilities of the technology.
Voice over DSL / Voice over IP Voice and data networks are converging -- Voice over IP and Voice over DSL technologies enable service providers and enterprises to be successful in markets with increasing competition.
The showcase demonstrated live Voice over IP performance testing of a typical enterprise network including emulated encrypted WAN links. Voice over DSL is the latest family of speech transmission protocols for access and 3GPP mobile networks. The showcase informed about the current status of this service provider technology.
