LAN analysis for the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Trade (IHK)
Our customer
The Berlin Chamber of Industry and Trade (IHK Berlin) is an organisation of entrepreneurs providing services for entrepreneurs. They represent the interests of their members in consultation with the Berlin government, the elected representatives and the city administration. Their work generally relates to the economic affairs of the city. IHK also provides a range of services for its members as well as support in various instances.
Project aims
The objective of the LAN analysis was to measure the load levels of the network and to identify possible bottle-necks that were occurring. In addition, there was the need to carry out a detailed protocol analysis in order to reach conclusions about whether or not they should proceed with a possible expansion of the network.
Description of the unique network
The IHK operates a switched Ethernet-LAN with some 400 clients situated in various buildings across a campus setting. The predominant protocol is TCP/IP.
Description of the test scenario and EANTC's mission
The network connections from main switch to the workgroup switches and to the servers were subjected to a detailed traffic analysis using a protocol analyser. In addition, data levels at the relevant links were measured and analysed in relation to the transfer protocols that were being used.
The individual measurement results provided detailed information about the future design of the network investigated.
